Santa Barbara resides on the West Coast of the United States, 92 miles north of Los Angeles and 332 miles south of San Francisco. It is the largest city and the seat of Santa Barbara County. The county is well renown for its gorgeous beaches - most of which lie along a unique south-facing stretch of coastline. This coastline allows beach visitors to enjoy the sun all day long as well as giving them shelter from winds and surf. There's a lot more than just beaches, though! The county offers a wide variety of terrain. Nearly one-third of its total acreage is located in the
Los Padres National Forest, which includes the beautiful
San Rafael Wilderness Area. This diversity creates a number of outdoor recreational options in a rather compact area.
Santa Barbara serves as a place for locals and visitors alike to escape and relax. The area offers a multitude of opportunities and activities: everything from surfing, hiking, boating, swimming and sports fishing; to the more lively activities such as jet skiing, windsurfing, kayaking, whale-watching, horseback riding, and more. If none of those suit your fancy, you can simply lie on a lounge chair on the beach, watch and enjoy the scenery, and relax Santa Barbara-style. This city indulges in a pleasant Mediterranean climate that is generally mild and sunny throughout the whole year, with relatively stable temperatures; there is no real “off-season" for these locals.
